How to Host an Intern

  • Please send an email to londoninternship@ciee.org. We love to meet potential partners, so we would be happy to schedule a follow-up video call or an in-person visit to better acquaint ourselves with your company.

  • This information is helpful in determining if any of our incoming students would make a suitable candidate for an internship at your company. If we don’t have a suitable student in the incoming cohort, we keep this information on file and will reach out again in the future.

  • CIEE staff meet with each student virtually to discuss the students’ learning goals, aspirations, and skills they wish to gain during their internship. The student will provide more context in terms of their dream career, their ideal sector, their past experience, and more.

  • Based on the information collected during the PPM meeting, CIEE staff will start the internship matchmaking process. If there is a suitable student, our staff will send you their CV to review. We ask that you let us know within 72 hours whether you’re interested in arranging an internship interview with the student.

  • After determining the availability of the supervisor and student, CIEE will send both parties an online meeting link to complete the interview. CIEE is not present during the internship interview. The internship interview is your opportunity to learn more about the student’s skills, interests, and goals. It will also give you an opportunity to provide additional information about the internship, the role and expectations. Please notify the CIEE London Internship Team after the interview has taken place and share whether you plan on making the student an offer. Our team will share the news with the student, and confirm if they are happy to accept.

  • The internship agreement is signed by CIEE, the supervisor and the student. The agreement will be sent to you directly for digital signature via DocuSign and must be signed before the student can start their internship.

  • All students are required to apply for a visa to complete an internship in London. The requirements vary for the company and student depending on which programme they are enrolled in. Please see our Visa Summary for more information.

  • Students go through an initial orientation with CIEE before starting their internships.

  • CIEE staff serves as a resource to both the student and company during the internship. We will conduct a check-in to discuss the student’s progress, achievements, goals for the remainder of the internship, etc. This check-in may be in the form of an email, video call, or in-person visit.

  • We encourage all supervisors to complete end-of-internship feedback meetings with their interns.

  • Because the students are doing the internship as part of their studies, we ask that supervisors fill out a survey to evaluate the students’ performance. This will be sent electronically during the final days of the internship. It is imperative for the survey to be completed to finalise the student’s final grade. Our team will also be requesting a copy of the student’s attendance record to ensure visa compliance is met.
